Barnes Physical Education Center opened in 1972 and named in honor of Covenant’s second president, Dr. Marion D. Barnes and his wife Vera, officially on October 26, 1990.
The facility plays host to the Scots’ men's and women's basketball and volleyball programs as well as other athletic department needs.
During the summer of 2013, Barnes PE Center received a facelift with new interior paint jobs and championship banners honoring all 14 of Covenant’s athletic programs. New bleachers were installed in October of 2013 to update the facility further. The seating capacity is set at 650.
The main floor houses the game court to go along with offices for athletic administration. On the first floor are located an aerobic exercise room, weight room, and more office space. The third floor has additional coaches and faculty offices and a classroom.
Barnes PE Center played host to the 2015 USA South Volleyball Tournament, the first time an entire conference tournament was held at Covenant in the NCAA era. In the championship match, over 400 fans packed the seats to watch Covenant take home the conference title with a 3-1 victory over Maryville. The venue also hosted the 2019 USA South Men's Basketball Tournament final rounds.
